Winter Book Club 2017

Winter Book Club 2017 | KiaSalter.com

I am such a huge book club type person. I love to read. And don’t think I’m crazy but I also love the smell of fresh printed paper within books. I don’t know what it is, but it reminds me of walking into the library at school with my money to buy books from the school’s book fair. What amazing memories. Sidebar, do they even have book fairs anymore for kids? I hope they do.

Reading as a child really helped me become an avid reader as an adult. And every season I stock up on new books, or kindle books, to read. And with winter coming up, most of my books have to be page turners that make me wanna feel cozy, enlightened, and inspired. So that means no “who done it” or murder mysteries. Sorry guys, those are not my idea of a good time. I’d have nightmares for days. So here are some of brand new books, in my winter book club list, I can’t wait to read.

Year of Yes | Shonda Rhimes

I am such a HUGE fan of Shonda’s work. Yes, I am a gladiator. And when I first heard of this book, and her journey into becoming more of who she is, there was no doubt it was being added to my book list. I so can’t wait to read this.

Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood | Trevor Noah

Trevor’s may be the comedic genius behind, The Daily Show. But his book is all about his life and his unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show. I can’t wait to read this.

The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell | W. Kamau Bell

I am such a fan of Kamau’s CNN show, United Shades of America. It’s insightful and allows you to go into the lives of others and actually learn something. And I expect nothing less from this book.

Bad Feminist | Roxane Gay

This book features a collection of funny and insightful essays that feature various topics like: politics, criticism, and feminism. I am so excited to read this book which is why it’s first on my list.

One Day We’ll All Be Dead & None of This Will Matter | Scaachi Koul

I’m starting to see a theme this winter with my book collection. I’m interested in reading about powerful and amazing women. And this book of essays definitely feeds my fix.

I can’t wait to dive into these books. So what are you reading this upcoming winter? Let me know by commenting below. I’m always on the lookout for amazing reads. So let’s share our favorite books and swap stories.
